Translation notes
- 貞: Wilhelm renders "perseverance" — Wilhelm renders 貞 as perseverance. The classical gloss is 正固 - 'correct and firm'. The nuance matters for English readers: it is not endurance under any goal, but firmness in what is correct.
- 亨: Wilhelm renders "success (sublime success)" — Wilhelm conflates 亨 as 'success'. Classical gloss is 通 - penetration/development. See Lynn's critique of this rendering.
